HOWARD G. LANE ’87

[Photos by Art Moody ’53}

Howard Garland Lane (1869-1957), a member of the first graduating Class of 1887, was benefactor to both Academy and Town. One of the first graduate-Trustees, he served as President of the Board for 33 years. His Alma Mater shared in the Charitable Trust he set up in 1947. Both Mr. Lane and his wife, Sarah (Hobbs) Lane ’87, served as President of the Alumni Association.

This portrait of Joshua A. Lane (1831-1908), father of Howard Lane, hangs in the Lane Memorial Library named for him. Funds in his name were given to the Academy in 1908.

The Lane Memorial Library was built by Howard Lane in memory of his father. It was dedicated and transferred to the Town in December 1910.
