Book & Media Donation Guidelines

Please note that we are not accepting book or media donations at this time.

Donations of gently used, clean books are accepted at the library. The Lane Library also appreciates donations of clean, unscratched, and in the case DVD’s, music CD’s, and video games. The library does not take donations of items that are dirty, musty, moldy, torn, or in poor condition. The library does not accept donations of dictionaries, textbooks, and Reader’s Digest condensed volumes.

Donations can be dropped off at the library during operating hours. Donations should not be left at the library when the library is closed. It is the donor's responsibility to make appropriate arrangements to transport and bring their items inside the library. The library does have a dolly and book cart that may be accessed for bringing their items inside. Donors are requested to notify the library ahead of time if they will be donating 10 or more boxes of items.

Gift material is accepted with the understanding that any gift item is evaluated according to the library policy for addition to the library collection. Factors influencing acceptance of gifts are cost of processing, availability of space, suitability of format, community interest, and physical condition of the item. No gift may be accepted with restrictive conditions unless the conditions are specifically approved by the Director in writing. All gifts are accepted with the stipulation that the library may do with them what it wills. The library does not evaluate gifts or donations for tax or estate purposes.

The Friends of the Lane Memorial Library is a volunteer, non-profit organization. They accept donations through the library based on time available for processing, availability of space, suitability of format, community interest, and physical condition of the item. Items not kept by the Friends are either processed for disposal or donated to other organizations that utilize book donations. For more information about the Friends or the upcoming book sale, visit www.lanelibraryfriends.org.
