Five generations turned out to celebrate the 100th birthday of Florence Brodeur Cacciola at the Galley Hatch Restaurant in Hampton last Saturday. Her actual birthday is March 14, but with relatives traveling from 10 states, including Washington, California, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Florida, North Carolina, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire, they decided to hold the gathering on the weekend. One great-granddaughter currently residing in Spain, was unable to attend, but wished her Happy Birthday through an iPhone video call — impressive compared to the wall phones of 1913!

Florence, and her late husband Al, opened Caccy's Homemade Candies on 682 Lafayette Road in Hampton in 1961, currently Hoaty's Retaurant. While there, they built a new store at 862 Lafayette Road, now home to O'Donnell's Imports. All candy was homemade on the premises where they had their retail and wholesale business, shipping candy worldwide. Florence credits her longevity to hard work.
