BRENTWOOD -- While murder suspect Sheila LaBarre claimed to be the common-law wife of Hampton chiropractor Wilfred LaBarre, she married and divorced someone else, then began another relationship documented by her domestic violence arrest.

Through it all, Sheila lived rent-free on LaBarre's sprawling Epping farm and while she had no job, claimed ownership of three cars including a Cadillac and a Mercedes coupe.

Those and other details of LaBarre's personal and financial history are included in records of her divorce from Wayne Ennis, which until Monday were sealed by order of the Rockingham County Superior Court. The divorce file, unsealed following a successful petition by the Herald and over LaBarre's objections, also includes a 2001 request from the state Department of Revenue to view the LaBarre-Ennis divorce papers.

The state's interest, according to court records, was Sheila's claim following Wilfred's Dec. 2, 2000 death to be his common-law spouse.

According to counsel for the Dept. of Revenue, Sheila and Wilfred were required to have lived together for three years before his death "and acknowledged each other as husband and wife."
