Funeral services for Fredrick R. Batchelder, 76, of 52 Winnacunnet Road, for many years an engineer for the New England Telephone and Telegraph company in Boston, were held Wednesday afternoon in Trinity Episcopal church with Rev. Dwight Blakeslee, vicar, officiating.

Mr. Batchelder maintained an active interest in civic affairs of his native town. His outstanding contribution was probably his service as chairman of the original sewage system committee which pioneered the efforts to construct the first central sewage disposal system for Hampton Beach.

He was a former Precinct Commissioner of the Hampton Beach Village District and was the first commodore of the Hampton Beach Yacht club. He was a past president of the Hampton Garden Club, a member of Star of the East Lodge, F and AM, and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Following his early education in Hampton schools, Mr. Batchelder graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Class of 1906. During World War I, he served in France with the 401st Telephone Battalion following which he joined the N. E. Telephone and Telegraph company as an engineer.

A direct descendant of Rev. Stephen Bachiler, who founded Hampton in 1638, Mr. Batchelder was born Dec. 4, 1883, the son of George F. and Cornelia (Seavey) Batchelder.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Annette MacKinnon Batchelder.

Masonic services were held at the Sturgis Funeral Home Tuesday evening, conducted by officers of Star in the Wast lodge, F and AM of Exeter.

Burial was in the family lot in High street cemetery with Carl C. Bragg, Fire Chief Perley R. George, Edward S. Seavey, Jr., of Hampton and F. W. Haley of Boston, Mass., serving as bearers.
