Lucille "Pete" Batchelder

HAMPTON -- Lucille "Pete" Batchelder, 82, died Feb. 14, 2005, at her home following a brief illness.

She was born June 14, 1922, in Braddock, Pa., the daughter of Algot and Lillian Peterson. Her father died when she was 2 and her mother when she was 11. She was raised in Manchester, Conn., by her adopted parents, Paul and Ruth Azinger. She moved to the Batchelder homestead in Hampton following her marriage.

She received her nursing degree from Meriden Hospital, Meriden, Conn.

Mrs. Batchelder was a pediatric nurse at Manchester (Conn.) Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital and at Exeter Hospital.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and golf.

She was very active in the community, serving on the Hampton School Board. She was a member of the Exeter Hospital Associates; the Exeter Hospital Fashion Show Committee, serving as the chairman for many years; a member of the board of directors of the Hampton Beach Improvement Company Co., Inc., serving as it's corporate secretary. She was a member of Abenaqui Country Club; and president of the Rye Beach-Little Boar's Head Garden Club.

She was a member of Christ Church Episcopal, Exeter.

The widow of Edwin L. "Ted" Batchelder, who died in 1991, she is survived by four sons, Stephen, Thomas, David and Skip and their spouses; six grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Azinger and Ralph Azinger; one sister, Ruth Ann; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held in the spring.
