BRISTOL — Carroll M. Brown, 81, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at his home after a period of failing health.

He was born May 7, 1928, in Haverhill, Mass., the son of the late Percy Brown and Hazel R. (Myers) Bayers, and was raised in Hampton.

Mr. Brown was a quality control specialist for the former Western Electric succeeded by Bell Communications Research, for 34 years retiring in 1990.

He was the founder of Brownie's Motel at Hampton Beach in 1960 which he sold in 1962. He also owned and operated Brownie's Pine Grove Cottages on Newfound Lake in Bristol from 1973 to 1989.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Cavanaugh) Brown; one son, Carroll M. Brown Jr. of Bristol; one daughter, Pamela Brown of Claremont; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Stanwood S. Brown of Hampton.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara A. (Stonesifer) Brown in 1993.

WE REMEMBER: He was a 1946 graduate of Hampton Academy & High School and attended Wentworth Institute in Boston.

He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II.

While living in Hampton he worked as a part-time police officer and was active as a Cub Scout master with the Cub Scouts. He was a 60-year member of Star in the East Lodge No. 59 of Exeter; Union Lodge No. 79 of Bristol; St. James Lodge No. 102 of Hampton; and the William Whipple Military Lodge of Strawbery Banke. He was presently serving as the Grand Historian of the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire.

He had resided in Bristol since 1973 where he served 18 years as a police commissioner.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held Friday, Nov. 27, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., conducted by the Grand Lodge of N.H.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home.

Burial will be in Center Cemetery, North Hampton.
