HAMPTON –Wayne P. Bryer, M.D., 83, of 16 Stratham Green, Stratham, longtime general practitioner and formerly of Exeter Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Exeter Hospital.

He was born July 29, 1907, in Peterborough, the son of Walter A. and Bertha H. (Nichols) Bryer.

Dr. Bryer was a 1925 graduate of Peterborough High School and a 1929 graduate of Dartmouth College. He received his MDCM from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. After serving his internship at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Conn., he opened his practice in Hampton in 1937. Dr. Bryer retired in 1982 after 45 years of service to Hampton and its surrounding towns.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of Hampton’s American Legion Post No. 35. He had an avid interest in horticulture and also enjoyed the arts.

The widower of Deborah (Gale) Bryer, who died in September of 1986, he is survived by one son John G. Bryer of Newton, Mass.; four daughters Victoria Bryer of Portland, Ore., Cornelia Bryer of Chicago, Ill., Anne Bryer of Kittery Point, Maine and Liberty Bryer of St. John, V.I.; four grandchildren; and one sister, Harriet Bryer of Phoenixville, Pa.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, Winnacunnet Road, Hampton. Friends are invited.

The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial donations may be made to the Roland Paige Fund for the Hampton Historical Society Fund, 500 Market St., Portsmouth, N.H. 03801, or to Seacoast Hospice, P.O. Box 237, Exeter, N.H. 03833.
