STRATHAM - Lucy E. Bume, 84, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Exeter Healthcare after a lengthy illness.

She was born April 20, 1918, in Stratham, the daughter of the late George E. and Edith M. (Wentworth) Chapman and was a lifelong resident of Stratham.

She was a 1935 graduate of the former Robinson Female Seminary, Exeter.

Mrs. Bume was employed at Lane Memorial Library in Hampton for many years.

She was past president of the Unity Club and the PTA in Stratham; a member of Stratham Community Church; and a Friend of the Wiggin Memorial Library, Stratham.

She is survived by two daughters, Joanne B. Cole of Kensington and Judith E. Burke of Penobscot, Maine; one son, James E. Brown of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Reid of Barrington, R.I.; two brothers, Reginald Chapman of Kingston and George S. Chapman of Georgia; a longtime friend, Evelyn Barker of Stratham; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Carrol Brown, who died in 1943; and her second husband, Rudolph L. Bume, who died in 1993.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. in Stratham Community Church with the Rev. Mark Strickland officiating. Private burial will be in Maple Lane Cemetery, Stratham.
