Charles Burlington

HAMPTON -- Charles Burlington, 76, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, in Exeter Hospital.

He was born August 25, 1931, in Manchester, the son of the late Charles A. and Esther (Dame) Burlington.

He was a 1950 graduate of Hampton Academy.

Mr. Burlington was employed by the Hampton Department of Public Works for 26 years, retiring in 1986 as superintendant of highways.

He was later employed with the Rockingham County Sheriff's Department as a deputy sheriff and was a member of the Rockingham County Sheriff's Motorcycle Unit, which he helped organize. Most recently, he was a driver for Holloway Buick, Pontiac, GMC, Cadillac.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann M. (Ziehler) Burlington; one son, Daniel C. Burlington, and his wife, Pauline, of Hampton; two daughters, Linda A. Woodsum and Donna M. Hardardt and her husband, Forrest, all of Hampton; 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

He was predeceased by one son-in-law, Rob Woodsum in 2006.

WE REMEMBER: He served Hampton as a call firefighter, retiring with the rank of lieutenant.

His passion was his Harley Davidson motorcycle. In 2003, he purchased a new Harley and was the recipient from Harley Davidson Company of the Oldest Purchaser Award for the 2003 series. He was a charter member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club of Hampton.

He was a member of Rising Star Lodge No. 47 F. & A.M. of Newmarket and was a longtime participant in the daily morning meetings over coffee in the back room at Marelli's Market.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, in the funeral home. Burial will follow in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
