EXETER — Robert P. Chamberland, 75, of Sherwood Forest, formerly of Hampton, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at Exeter Hospital.

He was born Jan. 25, 1930, in Manchester, the son of the late Alfred J. and Albina (Dube) Chamberland, and had resided in Hampton for 40 years, moving to Exeter four years ago.

Mr. Chamberland was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving as a tank commander in the German occupation.

He worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a pipe fitter and draftsman for many years and served as shop steward. He also worked as a self-employed plumber for several years.

Mr. Chamberland was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish and a member of the Hamptons’ American Legion Post 35.

He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine M. “Joyce” (Brady) Chamberland, on Sept. 19, 2001.

Family members include two sons, Alfred P. Chamberland and his wife, Cynthia, of East Hampton, Mass., and Thomas S. Chamberland of Framingham, Mass.; a grandson, Alexander V. Chamberland of East Hampton, Mass.; two brothers, Donald G. Chamberland of Dover and Bertrand L. Chamberland of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; three sisters, Rita M. McCarthy of Manchester, Pauline L. Dumas of Bedford and Jeanne A. Chamberland of Manchester and Hampton; and several nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. If desired, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
