HAMPTON –- Frank J. Chiaramitaro Sr., of 5 Stowecroft Drive, succumbed to an eight-year battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at the age of 64. He was born in Gloucester, Mass., on March 10, 1942, to Frank and Rosina Chiaramitaro. He was educated at St. Ann's Catholic School, Gloucester Public High School, and concluded with a Bachelor's of Science degree in economics from Suffolk University in Boston, being the first member of his family to graduate from college. Immediately after college he was employed with New York Life Insurance Company. He then met and married his former wife, Ina F. Bertolino; of Gloucester. He then accepted a job as the Northern New England sales representative for Wyeth Laboratories, necessitating him and Ina to move to Burlington, Vt.

Soon thereafter, their only child, a son, was born to Frank and Ina Chiaramitaro; Frank J. Chiaramitaro Jr. Having grown up with a father who was a mason and two uncles who were builders; he longed for the days of his youth, working on homes with his father and uncles. This longing brought him and his family to Hampton in 1974 to which he accepted a position as the New England district sales manager with Ridge Homes, a national modular home manufacturer. He then accepted a position as general manager of Ricci Lumber in Portsmouth, N.H. The constant stream of builders he saw daily at Ricci Lumber once again made him long for building houses. He realized that dream when he and his former wife started Fraina Construction Corporation in 1978.

After only four years of building homes, they took the big leap into real estate development by developing Stowecroft Drive in Hampton. Soon thereafter, they branched further out, into real estate sales establishing Fraina Realty in 1984 and in the late 1980s developed Fieldstone Circle in Hampton. In 1990 Frank's dream of having his son, Frank J. Chiaramitaro Jr., join the family business was realized, and together they piloted through a very rough real estate period that had brought much hardship to the area.

Despite this hardship, Frank and his son developed Westridge Drive in Hampton. Following the dissolution of his marriage in 1992, in 1993 he met who he so fondly referred to as his life partner, Jane Pedersen of Southboro, Mass.

Along with a very busy career, he also found time to serve the people of his community. He was a member of The Hampton Rotary Club, the Holy Name Society, and an usher at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton. He was very proud of being elected by the citizens of Hampton for three consecutive three-year terms of the Hampton Planning Board, one of which he functioned as chairman. He retired in 1997 and closed Fraina Construction Corp, with his son continuing to carry on home building with his company, Great Traditions Home Builders Inc. He spent his time doing things that he enjoyed most, which were recreational fishing, traveling, and motorcycle touring.

Following his retirement, he and Jane traveled to Europe, made yearly winter trips to Florida, and almost endless series of motorcycle tours through New England, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and eastern Canada on his beloved Honda Goldwing. He and Jane traveled more than 40,000 miles. He was proud of his almost 40-year passion of motorcycling without a single accident. In between his travels, he enjoyed spending time with his son, daughter-in-law Amy, and grandsons, Frank Joseph Chiaramitaro III and John Arthur Chiaramitaro. His favorite times with his grandsons include fishing, story-telling that included jokes and stories of "days gone by," and all the family holidays and events that were celebrated with so many loved ones. He cherished his many spontaneous "pop-over" visits on his motorcycle to his son and daughter-in-law's home that resulted in wonderful family meals and shared time.

He is survived by his son, Frank J. Chiaramitaro Jr., daughter-in-law, Amy R. Chiaramitaro, grandsons Frank Joseph Chiaramitaro, III and John Arthur Chiaramitaro of Rye. His life partner, Jane Pedersen of Hampton, his sister Bernadette (Chiaramitaro) Anderson, brother-in-law Brent Anderson, a niece, Bernadette Barry Gifford, nephew, Christopher Barry all of Florida. His former wife Ina (Chiaramitaro) Castagna of Manchester, two former brother-in-laws, Frank Bertolino of Newbury, MA, and Vincent Bertolino of Hampton.

SERVICES: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton, Monday, at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
