Obituary of Frederick C. Clews

HAMPTON BEACH -- Frederick C. Clews, 91, of 174 Ashworth Ave., died Saturday, May 12, 2007, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Aug. 27, 1915, in Cambridge, Mass., the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (McCormack) Clews. He resided in Cambridge before moving to Hampton.

He was a graduate of Rindge Technical High School.

Mr. Clews and his late wife owned and operated Clews Furniture Company at Hampton Beach for more than 55 years. He had previously owned an upholstery shop in Cambridge and taught adult education classes in upholstery at Rindge for more than 20 years.

He was active in the community and served as a deputy fire chief with the Hampton Fire Department.

The widower of Hazel A. (Costa) Clews, who died in March, he is survived by two sons, Frederick C. Clews Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Hampton and John J. Clews of Hampton Beach; one daughter and her husband, Catherine and James Breslin of Hampton; and four grandchildren, Henry and Thomas Breslin and Julia and Charles Clews, all of Hampton.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and John Clews.

WE REMEMBER: He was an avid sports fan and had original season tickets to the Boston Red Sox, Bruins, and Celtics.

His favorite pastime was the theater and he loved going to all the shows with his family.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, May 15, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 16, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home.
