David F. Colt, Sr.

Former Hampton Businessman

Funeral services for David F. Colt, Sr., 63, of Mill Road, retired Hampton businessman, who died August 29 in a Portsmouth convalescent home after a long illness, were held Tuesday from the Baker-Farrell Funeral home with burial in the family lot of the High Street cemetery.

Committal services were conducted by Rev. Dr. Poulin, relief pastor of the Hampton Baptist Church.

Bearers were: Herbert A. Casassa, Kirby Higgins, Erford W. Cate, and Chester Grady of Hampton.

Born in Whitman, Mass., February 5, 1891, the son of Mrs. Mattie (Wilder) Colt of Haverhill, Mass., and the late William Colt, he had resided here for the past 38 years.

Mr. Colt was the former owner of the Colt News Store and retired from business in 1951 when he sold the Colt Photo Service.

A veteran of World War I, he served overseas with the 12th Photo Co., USA.

Besides his mother, he is survived by a son, David F. Colt, Jr., of Hampton; two daughters, Mrs. Howard Robbins of New York City and Miss Jeannie Colt of Hampton, and two grandchildren.
