HAMPTON -- Robert H. Danelson, 97, died Thursday Feb. 12, 2009, SunBridge of Exeter.
He was born April 12, 1911, in Boston, the son of the late Robert H. and Maude (Smelledge) Danelson. He resided in Glen Ridge, N.J., from 1920 to 1950, before moving to Exeter. He had been a Hampton resident since 1954.
He was educated in the Newark, N.J., public schools and was a graduate of Rutgers University.
Mr. Danelson was a sales representative for Blue Coal Corporation of Bloomfield, N.J., for 21 years and as advertising director for the former Woodbury Press of Hampton for 15 years, from which he retired in 1974.
He is survived by one brother, Richard C. Danelson of Roselle Park, N.J., and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth (Meeker) Danelson, who died in 1970, and his second wife, Caroline (Tracy) Danelson, who died in 1996; one brother, Earl B. Danelson; and one sister, Edith Toye.
WE REMEMBER: He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre and the Okinawa invasion.
He had been active in the Masonic Order since 1941 and served as Master of Mountain Lodge F. & A. M. No. 214 of Upper Montclair, N.J., in 1949; was a charter member and the first Master of Saint James Lodge F. & A. M. No. 102 of Hampton in 1960-1961; Past Presiding Officer of the York Rite and Scottish Rite Bodies in New Hampshire and received his 33rd Degree in 1972; was Grand Master (1972-1973) and Grand Secretary (1974-1983) of the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire; was a member of the Bektash Temple Shrine of Concord and for many continuous years starting in 1966 served as trustee and treasurer of the Masonic Home in Manchester.
Mr. Danelson served Hampton as a selectman from 1962 to 1965 and 1968-69 and was a member of the Municipal Budget Committee and the Planning Board.
He was a member of Hamptons American Legion Post No. 35.SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held Sunday, Feb. 15, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. American Legion services will be held at 5:30 p.m., followed by Masonic services at 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton, with a reception to follow in St. James Lodge, 77 Tide Mill Road, Hampton.
