Frederick T. DelaneyHAMPTON — Frederick T. Delaney, 77, of Hampton, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014, with loving family by his bedside at Oceanside Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hampton.

Fred was born Sept. 26, 1936, in Lowell, Mass., a son of the late Frederick and Catherine (Daly) Delaney.

He was raised in Lowell and graduated from Lowell High School, Class of 1955. Fred met and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley (Francoeur) Delaney, and the couple lived in Dracut and North Tewksbury, Mass., before moving to Hampton in 1976. Fred and Shirley celebrated 56 years as husband and wife last November.

Fred was employed as a splicing technician for New England Telephone and Verizon, and retired in 1986 after 31 years of service. He and Shirley spent many winters in Boca Raton, Fla., and owned and operated Sergeant Pepper's Gourmet Pizza Pub in Indian Rocks Beach, Fla. They also owned and operated the Sea Squire Motor Lodge in Hampton for 31 years before retiring in 2005. Fred was an avid antique car enthusiast, well known for his antique Cadillacs, and he loved music and politics.

He was a member of the IBEW Union No. 2320 and a lifetime member of the Pioneers. Fred was also was a member of American Legion Post No. 35 of Hampton, American Legion of Ormond Beach, Fla., Elks Lodge No. 2193 of Ormond Beach, Elks Lodge No. 97 of Portsmouth, and Moose Lodge No. 1263 of Daytona Beach, Fla.

A proud veteran, Fred served his country honorably with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1954 to 1962

Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be sadly missed by the entire family.

In addition to his wife Shirley, he is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Delaney and her companion, Frank Pellegrino, and Darlene Delaney and her companion, Kevin Knowles; his granddaughters, Jennifer Coughlin, Kristen Laurion and Caitlin Casper; his great-grandsons, Ryan and Julian; his sister, Linda Prevenas and her husband, Arthur; his brother, Brenden Delaney and his wife, Helen; his sister-in-law, Barbara Purkey; his brothers-in-law, Paul Francoeur and Ronald Francoeur and his wife, Sheila; and lifelong friends Handel and Maude Matley.

He was predeceased by his beloved son, Darryn; his brother, Brian; and his sister, Sally Sawyer.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 16, in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, North Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or to the American Cancer Society
