Roy Gillmore

HAMPTON -- Former school supt. Roy Gillmore, 80, of 283 North Shore Blvd, died Jan. 31 at the Beverly Manor Nursing Home in Exeter.

He was the widower of Anna Hopkins Gillmore and was born in Lynn, Mass. Nov. 2, 1890, the son of Edwin and Inez Andrews Gillmore.

He graduated from Colby College, Waterville, Maine and received his masters at Bates University in Lewiston, Maine.

Mr. Gillmore was a 50-year member of Union Lodge, F & AM of Bristol; a member of St. James F & AM of Hampton; a member of Orient Chapter OES of Exeter; and Oceanside Grange of Hampton, as well as past master of Charlestown Grange.

He was the first president of the Hampton Kiwanis Club and was president of the state PTA. He was founder of the Exeter Area Golden Age Club.

He was also trustee the New Hampton School for Boys for many years.

Mr. Gillmore was superintendent of schools in Hampton for more than 30 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Robert Kimball of Hampton and six grandchildren.

Burial will be in the family lot in Home Lane Cemetery in Bristol in the spring.
