HAMPTON - Richard R. "Dick" Grenier, 76, of 11 Philbrook Terrace, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at his home.

He was born Oct. 15, 1926, in Somerville, Mass., the son of the late Reginald and Eleanor (LeBlanc) Grenier.

He was a graduate of Hampton Academy with the Class of 1945 and was captain of the football and basketball teams and served on the baseball team. He then served with the U.S. Navy during the end of World War II. After the war he returned to continue his education, graduating the University of New Hampshire in Durham.

He worked 45 years as an actuary for William M. Mercer Inc. in their pension/retirement division, retiring in 1995 from the Boston office. He was a former member of the board of trustees of Hampton Academy and a member of the Society of Actuaries.

He was known for his manicured yard that he enjoyed puttering about, was an active downhill skier, enjoyed playing tennis, golf and walking along the beach. He was a member of the Exeter Country Club, Hampton's American Legion Post No. 35 and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church.

He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Ann (Janvrin) Grenier, who died in 1993, and was predeceased by a brother, Edward Grenier. He is survived by four daughters, Joan E. Grenier-Winther of Pullman, Wash., Denise A. Breen of Fitzwilliam, Susan M. Sherr of Bedford and Caryn A. Grenier of Nashua; his companion, Gwen Callahan of Exeter; nine grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
