HAMPTON — Col. George L. Iverson (Ret. N.H. State Police), 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at his home.

He was born March 16, 1926, in Portland, Maine, the son of Elsie M. Iverson.

He was raised in Maine and was a graduate of Goodwill High School in Hinkley, Maine, and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.

Col. Iverson joined the New Hampshire State Police in 1955 and rose through the ranks, retiring as director in 1989. He served as director of Emergency Management for the state and volunteered at Exeter Hospital for more than 15 years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jenny (Baillargeon) Iverson of Hampton; two children and their spouses, Scott Iverson and his wife Adele Pascale of Concord, Mass., and Lynda Sellar and her husband Bruce of Hampton; four grandsons, Christopher Sellar, Alexander Sellar, Nicholas Iverson and Cristian Iverson; and one great-grandson, Liam Sellar.

He was predeceased by one daughter, Karen Iverson, who died Sept. 25, 2010.

WE REMEMBER: Col. Iverson was highly regarded among his law enforcement family. He was a life member of the N.H. Retired State Troopers Association, the N.H. State Police Benevolent Association, N.H. Police Chiefs Association, N.H. Police Association, N.H. Police Squad Club, N.H. Association of Retired Law Enforcement Officers and the 100 Club.

He was a member of the N.H. Parole Board, a former member of the board of directors of the Goodwill Association and a member of Saint James Lodge #102 F. & A.M. of Hampton.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and learned how to ski at age 70 so that he could ski with his grandsons.

He enjoyed history, especially the Civil War, and had toured most of the battlefields.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held Friday, Oct. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will follow in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
