William F. KeeneHAMPTON — William F. Keene, 80, of Hampton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.

Mr. Keene was born June 6, 1934, in Exeter, the only child of the late Harold M. and Zetta B. (Ryder) Keene. Mr. Keene was raised in Hampton, residing there for most of his life. He was a graduate of Hampton Academy and received a degree in aeronautical engineering from Boston University.

Since childhood he had been drawn to law enforcement and served as a police officer for more than 30 years with the Hampton Police Department. He also served as a deputy sheriff for Rockingham County, a U.S. Customs agent and a federal sky marshal. He also had worked as an engineer for AVCO Corp. and GTE Sylvania. Mr. Keene was also a gunsmith and was a former partner in K&H Firearms.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Surviving family members include his wife of 53 years, Carleen L. (Barron) Keene of Hampton; two daughters, Sandra Schiavi and her husband, Richard, of Dracut, Mass.; Kathy Reynolds and her husband, Michael, of Beverly, Mass., and four grandchildren, Michael and Brian Schiavi, and Ned and Madeline Reynolds.

SERVICES: Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the High Street Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701, or the Rockingham VNA and Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833.
