HAMPTON -- John J. "Jack" Kelley, 83, of Hampton, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, surrounded by loved ones at his home after a period of failing health.

He was born Oct. 14, 1925, in North Andover, Mass., a son of the late William and Johanna (Tarrant) Kelley.

He was a graduate of Lawrence (Mass.) High School and the University of Ohio. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Kelley was employed as an electrical engineer for Western Electric in North Andover for many years. He made his home on Hampton Beach for the past 50 years, coming from Methuen, Mass.

Survivors include his daughter, Maribeth Martineau and her husband Daniel of Seabrook Beach; a son, John J. Kelley Jr. of Maine; his grandson, Corey Hersey; his brother, Charles M. Kelley of Salisbury Beach, Mass.; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

WE REMEMBER: He was the beloved husband of the late Marie (McCarthy) Kelley, who predeceased him in 2001 after 50 years of a very happy marriage. He was also predeceased by his brother, Harry.

He loved living on the ocean and enjoyed swimming in it often. He was an active communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish and member of the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of Hampton's American Legion Post 35, past president of the South Lawrence Associates and always was an active community volunteer.

Jack led a very full life every day and enjoyed every minute of it.
