The death of Dennis J. Mahoney, which occurred at this home on the Kings Highway, North Beach, Tuesday morning [October 8, 1940] after a long illness, removes a long time business man of the beach who was most widely known and had hosts of friends.

Born in South Manchester, Conn., 65 years ago, Mr. Mahoney at an early age went to Haverhill, Mass., where he ran a barber shop for many years. About 1913 he opened up a barber shop on B street at Hampton Beach and a few years later believing that there was a need for more restaurants, spent a large part of a year learning the business thoroughly and then opened the first restaurant on the beach to be practically entirely equipped with electrical cooking appliances [Mahoney's Lunch]. He also became interested in real estate and was one of the leading figures of Hampton Beach businessmen until his health failed and he was obliged to retire from active business.

He then bought the extensive property on the Kings Highway at North Beach which he made into a trailer camp [Hampton Beach Trailer Park at 70 Kings Highway] and also built a fine residence as well as a business building there. Here he has continued to carry on, although for the past year or more much of the active management has been under the supervision of his wife, Mrs. Mildred W. Mahoney, who is the only close relative he leaves though he has nephews and nieces residing in South Manchester, Conn.

Funeral services were held this morning with burial in the family plot in the High street cemetery.
