HAMPTON— Garry Stuart Meyer, 60, a technology executive and community activist from Hampton, died suddenly Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, while visiting his children with his wife in Trumbull, Conn.

Dr. Meyer was born in Manhattan, N.Y., and resided in New Hampshire the past three years. He held an M.S. in electrical engineering/computer science from MIT and a B.S./Ph.D. from SUNY-Stony Brook.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Ellen (Balg) Meyer of Hampton; three children, Matthew Meyer of Manhattan, Benjamin Meyer and his wife Carlie of Trumbull, and Sarah Meyer and her fiancée Cyril Chaminade of Norwalk, Conn; one grandchild, Jake Chaminade; and one brother, Robert Meyer of New York, N.Y.

He was chairman of the board at Tower School in Stamford, Conn., and enjoyed coaching his three children in a variety of sports including baseball and soccer.

His work experience included roles as a senior VP for General Electric and CIO for Liberty Mutual Insurance.

WE REMEMBER: Most recently, Dr. Meyer was an active member of the Hampton community and New Hampshire state government. He was a candidate for local government with plans to run for state office.

He was passionate about improving health care, expanding clean energy and increasing government efficiency.
