Death has again removed another of our townsmen who will be sadly missed in the days to come. Herbert Perkins while of quiet temperament has been carrying on for his home town.

Interested in every project which would benefit the community, Mr. Perkins has given of his time and energy to make the project possible.

Such sudden departures from this life awaken us to the realization of the fact that we are but children responding to the call of the Almighty.

The community was saddened by the sudden death of Representative Herbert Perkins, of High Street, Hampton, on Friday evening from a heart attack. He had served as postmaster in Hampton from 1922 to 1934.

Mr. Perkins was a native of Concord and was born on July 29, 1868. He came to Hampton when quite young and was educated in the Hampton schools. For a number of years he conducted a meat and provision business there. He was a Republican in politics and served several terms in the house of representatives, as well as state senator, and one term from the second district. He was also for many years town treasurer. Mr. Perkins was a member of Star in the East Lodge of Masons of Exeter; Inefable Lodge of Perfection; Grand Council, Princes of Jerusalem; New Hampshire Consistory of Nashua; Rockingham Lodge of Odd Fellows and Winnacunnet Council, Junior O. U. A. M.; of Hampton, Square and Compass Club and Orient Chapter, O. E. S., of Exeter. He was also a member of the Methodist Church of Hampton.

Resides his widow, Annie Towle Perkins, he leaves one son, Judge John W. Perkins, and a grandson, John Calvin Perkins.

Funeral services were held from the home on Saturday afternoon at two. Rev. Raymond Pierce officiated. There was an unusually large attendance and a profusion of floral gifts, showing the esteem in which this most active resident was held. Bearers were Edwin Batchelder, Floyd Gale, Forrest Creighton, Edward Batchelder, Chester Marston, William Blake. Interment was in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. H. M.
