HAMPTON -- Joseph A. Roy, 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at his home.

He was born Oct. 12, 1930, in Amesbury, Mass., the son of the late Harmel and Marie Roy, and was educated in Amesbury schools.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the Pacific and a member of Hamptons' American Legion Post #35.

Mr. Roy was a grocery store manager for the First National Grocery Store chain and later for Prescott Farms Grocery Stores.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wanda (Yelle) Roy; one son, Larry Roy of Exeter; three grandsons, Justin Roy of North Berwick, Maine, Joshua Roy of Richmond, Va., and Adam Roy of Portland, Maine; two brothers, Roland Roy of Amesbury and Leo Roy of Brentwood; two sisters, Pauline Yelle and Lucille Cynewski, both of Amesbury; and several nieces and nephews.

WE REMEMBER: In his retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and building furniture and working in the yard, proud of his very green lawn. He also liked watching sports and doing crossword puzzles. He mostly enjoyed his family and will be sadly missed by them.

SERVICES: Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. in the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury. Visitation will precede the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
