Samuel Bruce Scaggs

World War II U.S. Navy Veteran

May 21, 1925 - January 26, 2003

VENICE, Fla. — Samuel Bruce Scaggs, 77, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003.

He was born May 21, 1925, in Cambria Va., and had resided in Venice for 10 years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Scaggs began his publishing career with The Hampton Union before being employed by the U.S. Government Printing Office in Washington, D.C., where he retired as a deputy public printer after 36 years of service.

He was a member of the Plantation Golf and Country Club, Venice; a 56-year member of the Hamptons' American Legion Post No. 35; and a 32nd degree mason in the Kena Temple Shrine in Fairfax, Va.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marion Allen Scaggs of Venice; two sons, Charles Scaggs of Sterling, Va., and Alan Scaggs of Ashburn, Va.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Scaggs of Christiansburg, Va.; two sisters, Mary Ellen Winn of Christiansburg and Lucy Tidwell of Artesia, N.M.

Services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Memorial donations to Dattoli Cancer Foundation, 2803 Fruitville Road, Sarasota, FL 34237.

Arrangements were by the Farley Funeral Home and Crematory, Venice.
