HAMPTON -- Brenda Shepard, 78, of Hampton, died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, in Exeter Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born May 23, 1932, in Exeter, the daughter of the late Oscar and Helen (Trefethen) Pevear.

She was a 1950 graduate of Hampton Academy.

Mrs. Shepard was a bookkeeper for the former Hampton Cooperative Bank for many years, retiring in 1988.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Roger S. Shepard of Hampton; two sons and their wives, Kim and Marie Shepard of Kittery, Maine, and Leslie and Andrea Shepard of Hampton; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Janice, Cara and Brenda Shepard, Katy Hobbs and Tania Babineau; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Pevear of Seabrook; three sisters, Mary Briere of Rye, Luella Surette of Revere, Mass., and Marilyn Holway of Estacada, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Oscar Pevear, Jr.

WE REMEMBER: She was a volunteer at the Hampton Junior High School library and in her earlier years was the treasurer at the First Baptist Church of Hampton.

Family was most important to her and she enjoyed spending many winters in Fort Myers, Fla., as well as traveling with her husband in their motor home. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, knitting and sewing.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held Friday, March 25, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, at 10 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, 127 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Winnacunnet High School Scholarship Fund, c/o Class of 1950, Alumni Drive, Hampton, NH 03842.
