HAMPTON -- William P. Stickney, 87, Hemlock Haven, died Monday, July 19,1982, at Seacoast Health Center after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Stickney was born in Nashua October 9, 1894, the son of Fred and Alice Stickney.

Mr. Stickney moved to Hampton in 1908. He was a World War I veteran having served in France. He was a 53-year charter member and past commander of the Hamptons American Legion Post 35 which was first chartered back on December 29, 1931. He was a 53-year member of the Star in the East Lodge, No. 57, F and AM, Exeter, and a charter member of St. James Lodge, No. 102, F and AM, Hampton. He was a 33-year-member of Orient Chapter No. 22, Order of Eastern Star, Exeter and a charter member of Tide Mill Chapter No. 67, Order Of Eastern Star, Hampton.

Mr. Stickney retired from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1964. He was a member of the Hampton Police Department. He served more than 50 years on the Hampton Fire Department, retiring as a captain with the volunteer unit.

Family members include his widow, Mrs. Winifred A. Stickney; two sons, William W. Stickney and Howard W. Stickney, both of Hampton; three daughters, Mrs. Shirley Molier of Lexington, Kentucky, Mrs. Phyllis Hefler of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Thelma S. Jones of Versailles, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held today, Wednesday, at 11 a.m. from the Ronald A. Remick Funeral Home.
