HAMPTON — LeRoy Charles “Charlie” Thayer, 68, of 450 High St., died Saturday, March 24, 2001, in Exeter Hospital.
He was born May 28, 1932, in Hamilton, Mass., the son of the late LeRoy C. and Sarah (Southwick) Thayer Arnold. He had resided in Salisbury, Mass., before moving to Hampton 30 years ago.
He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was a self-employed interior and exterior painter.
He served as a representative to the New Hampshire General Court in the early 1990s, representing Hampton and Hampton Falls. He served as a member of the Hampton Budget Committee and as a part-time police officer.
He was a member of Hampton United Methodist Church; the Hamptons American Legion Posts No. 35; and a former member of the Disabled American Veterans Piscataqua Chapter No. 4 of Newington.
He is survived by one son, William Thayer of Thailand and California; four daughters and three son-in-law, Carol and Eric Durant of Hampton, Susan and Eric Eno of Exeter, Pamela Thayer of Newburyport, Mass., and Debra and Louis Unga of Mesa, Ariz.; his former wife of 30 years, Linda G. (Welsh) Thayer of Exeter; 12 grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Gosselin of Kingston, June Whitcomb of Hampton and Claire DeGrandpre of Freeport, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday in Hampton United Methodist Church. Burial was in Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, Mass.
