HAMPTON — Robert Viviano, 81, died Friday, May 13, 2011, at his home.

He was born Feb. 9, 1930, in Springfield, Mass., the son of the late Pasquale and Elizabeth (Trapp) Viviano. He was raised in Springfield and resided in Melrose, Mass., before moving to Hampton in 1988.

He was a graduate of Springfield Technical High School and a 1951 graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He spent two years with the Merchant Marines, then was commissioned an officer in the U.S. Navy, serving four years during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Viviano was an executive with the former New England Telephone, retiring in 1988 with more than 32 years of service.

The widower of Jane (Delaney) Viviano, his wife of 31 years who died in 1984, he is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Sheryle and Luke Seward of North Attleboro, Mass., Jane and Jeff Winters of Hampton, and Melinda and Thomas Grega of Fairfield, Conn.; one son, Thomas Viviano of Hampton; 11 grandchildren, Matthew and Leah Seward, Jeffrey, Patrick and Ryan Winters, Timothy, Shawn, Krista and Thomas Grega, and Brittany and Liam Viviano; and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one brother, Joseph; three sisters, Mary Viviano, Eileen Majewski and Eleanor Wall; one granddaughter, Alexa-Rae Viviano; and one daughter-in-law, Anne-Marie Viviano.

WE REMEMBER: Mr. Viviano was a member of the Hampton Planning Board and served on various boards and committees in town for more than 18 years.

He loved collecting, restoring and showing off his antique cars and wooden boats.

Charity was a very important part of his life. He was on the board of directors of the Area Home Care and Family Services and was an anonymous and very generous donor to many local charities.

SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, May 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, May 18, at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, 815 Central Road, Rye. Burial will follow in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose, Mass.
