John H. Weatherby

HAMPTON — John H. Weatherby, 85, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, in Exeter Hospital.

He was born April 2, 1921, in Newburyport, Mass., the son of the late Albert M. and Annie E. (Hadden) Weatherby. He had been a resident of Hampton since 1979 coming from Edison, N.J., where he lived for 14 years. He was a 1939 graduate of Newburyport High School and attended Boston University.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II rising to the rank of staff sergeant.

Mr. Weatherby was employed by the former Towle Silversmiths of Newburyport as a sales representative and later as sales manager retiring in 1982 with 42 years of service. After his retirement he worked in sales for the former HVH Security of North Hampton for five years.

He was a member, deacon and warden of the First Congregational Church of Hampton.

The widower of Marguerite S. (Stickney) Weatherby, who died in 1991, he is survived by two sons and their wives, David J. and Lee Weatherby and Mark A. and Carol Weatherby, all of Hampton; two grandchildren, Laurel and Elaine Weatherby; one brother, Albert M. Weatherby Jr., of Boca Raton, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Weatherby and Charlotte Philbrick.

WE REMEMBER: He was a member of the Hampton’s American Legion Post 35 and was a former member and president of the Edison Rotary Club. He was an avid boater, fisherman, a great landscaper, a story teller of jokes and friend to all.

SERVICES: A memorial gathering will be held Sunday, Jan. 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Services will be held Monday, Jan. 8, at 1 p.m., in the First Congregational Church, Hampton. Private interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Newburyport, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church Deacons Fund, 127 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton, NH 03842.
