Barbara Garland Woods

March 2, 1929 - October 14, 2009

Barbara Garland Woods, 80, a resident of Wheelock Terrace, Hanover, NH, died peacefully on October 14, 2009 after living with Alzheimer's Disease for several years. She was a long-time resident of Hampton, NH.

Barbara was born March 2, 1929 in Framingham, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Otis Raymond and Ethel Phillips Garland of Hampton, NH. She married Kenneth C. Woods, also of Hampton, on June 19, 1955. After 41 years of marriage, Kenneth Woods died on June 28, 1996.

Barbara was a graduate of Hampton Academy, class of 1947, and Keene State College, class of 1951. She taught at Lebanon Junior High School for several years before moving back to Hampton and getting married. While raising her three children, she continued her teaching career as a substitute teacher at both Hampton Academy Junior High and Winnacunnet High School.

A member of the First Baptist Church of Hampton and the Eastern Star, Barbara also attended the Methodist Church in Interlachen, Florida, where she and her husband had a retirement home. After moving to a home on Mascoma Lake to be closer to family, she joined the United Methodist Church of Enfield and thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship of both the Methodist Church and the Enfield community. Throughout her life she was always blessed by good friends and neighbors.

Barbara leaves a loving family and many friends. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Susan and Gary Clark of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Nancy and Ray Dixon of Cypress, Texas, and Stephen and Suzie Woods of Hanover, NH; her five grandchildren, Jessica Alexander, Jeremy Clemens, Rachel and Alex Woods, and Sara Zatopek; and her brother and sister-in-law, David and Frieda Garland of Florida.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 24, at 2:00pm at the United Methodist Church of Enfield, 214 Route 4, Enfield, NH, 03748. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the United Methodist Church of Enfield or the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of Vermont and New Hampshire, 66 Benning St., Suite 6, West Lebanon, NH, 03784.
