CONCORD (AP) -- Vance Lattime Jr. of Seabrook, the driver in the Pamela Smart murder case, was granted parole on Thursday and could be freed within 30 days.

Lattime was 17 in 1990 when he supplied the gun used to murder Smart's husband, Gregory, and drove the car to Smart's house, where the killing took place.

He has served 15 years of an 18-year-to-life sentence for accomplice to second-degree murder. He was granted a three-year sentence reduction in May, making him eligible for parole.

Smart is serving life without parole. She was denied a pardon hearing request Wednesday.

Lattime had agreed to help a friend, William Flynn of Seabrook, kill Smart's husband. He supplied his father's gun and his grandmother's car.

Lattime and another teen, Raymond Fowler, waited in the car outside Smart's Derry townhouse while Flynn and another friend, Patrick Randall, went inside.

Flynn, then 16, was having an affair with Pamela Smart, who worked at Winnacunnet High School as a media coordinator.

Randall, Flynn and Lattime received plea deals in exchange for testifying against her. The ensuing trial, which revealed seamy details of Flynn's affair with Smart, was the most publicized in state history.

Fowler has already been paroled.

Flynn and Randall become eligible for parole in 2018. They are incarcerated at Maine State Prison.
