If you have noticed a new style of music filling the air around the bandstand this season, it is because there is a completely new band making the music this year.

The new Hampton Beach Concert Band, in its first week, has won the praise of vacationists of all ages by playing a wide selection of marches, old-time favorites, and many new tunes. Beach natives were pleased to note a trend toward the "good old brass band" of previous years.

The 12-piece band is directed by Dyson Kring of Dover, N.H., who is a noted trombone artist. Last winter, Mr. Kring was instrument instructor and music supervisor in the Medford, Mass., public schools. He attended Tufts University and is a graduate of Boston College.

He studied trombone at the New England Conservatory of Music and has played in the conservatory band and the Boston Symphony orchestra, as well as playing in many marching bands, show bands, and dance bands throughout New England and New York. He recently conducted a dance band which was engaged by Pease Air Force Base, Portsmouth, for a year.

Kring teaches the advanced trombone and brass bass pupils of the Hampton public schools.

The associate conductor and a trumpeter for the Hampton Beach concert is a full time instrumental teacher in the Hampton school system. He is Rolvin E. Coombs, a native of Hampton. The drum instructor of the Hampton schools, Ronald Dowd of Portsmouth, is also on drums with the beach band.

One more local man is playing with the band. He is Glenroy Wolfsen of North Hampton who plays piano. Glen graduated this spring from Winnacunnet High School, Hampton.

Other members of the band are James Santo of Somerville, Mass., Ernest Manuel and Alfred Pupolo of Boston, clarinets; Grayson Williams of Boston, Arthur Bisier of Burlington, Mass., trumpets; Rowland Young of Braintree, Mass., trombone; Tony Sylvagio of Haverhill, Mass., baritone; and John Evans of Lynn, Mass., bass.
