HAMPTON -- Stepping through the doors of the Bib 'N Crib Shoppe in downtown Hampton makes you feel like a kid again — or at least wishing that you were.

Owner Kama George believes in offering a "kid friendly" environment for both children and their parents while shopping, and her technique is working. From the two colorful wooden benches adorning each side of the entrance, to the Cozy Coupe vehicle kids propel themselves in around the store, the Bib 'N Crib Shoppe message is unmistakable: Kids are welcome here!

Since becoming the new owner of the Bib 'N Crib just last May, George says she has never been happier.

"I love it!" she says. "It's the best thing I've ever done."

Concentrating on spaciousness, George has created an environment for each and every visitor. From the benches for waiters, to providing reading materials, young and old alike appear to be taken care of once inside the store.

George says the new layout includes placing items at levels suitable for reaching fingers.

"If they can reach it, they can play with it," says the Bib 'N Crib owner, who adds that she'll even get down on the floor and play with the kids while her sales staff work with the customers. "More children cry when they have to leave," she adds.

George says her store has something for everyone, specializing in clothing for girls to size 12, and boys to size 7. Her "A to Z" selection includes 15 new lines of clothing items and accessories. From shoes size 0-4, to accessories to layettes, customers also rely on the Hampton landmark store for special occasion clothing such as First Communion dresses and suits, flower girl dresses, ring-bearer suits and even preemie clothes.

"Sales are ongoing," George says, "to meet all budget needs." She will also hold items and provides lay-a-ways to accommodate her clients.

The Bib 'N Crib Shoppe experience doesn't end with clothing. Customers will also find hand-painted furniture, which can be custom ordered to match bedroom decor. In addition, George is currently waiting for a round crib to add to her collection, which also includes comforters and doll cradles.

In addition to sales and free gift wrapping, the Bib 'N Crib's well-trained veteran sales staff will assist buyers with the store's Baby Registry, where customers may register for clothes for one full year. And due to the business' extensive Web page, the Bib 'N Crib Shoppe ships to customers all over the country.

Kama George's commitment to catering to her customers seems to know no bounds.

"I want to do it all for the customers," George says. "If they leave here without buying anything, it doesn't exist."

The Bib 'N Crib Shoppe, located at 440 Lafayette Road, Hampton, is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and to include Sundays in the summer, in July and August.
