HAMPTON -- The right spice can make an ordinary meal extraordinary.

With that in mind, local businessman Steven Scatturo can help you turn Tuesday night meatloaf into something a little more special.

Buzz Bomb World Spice Blends, Scatturo's business, offers nine blends to add that special oomph to whatever your dining on this evening. With names like Louisiana Luau, Kickin' Chicken and Mad Moose Rub there is bound to be something for even the most discerning taste.

Don't let the names of Buzz Bomb's spices fool you. These are versatile spices that can add a certain zing to just about anything. Soups, mashed potatoes, meats, sandwiches, salad dressings and dips are just a few of the foods that have been graced with the presence of a Buzz Bomb spice.

"They're very versatile," said Scatturo. "I try to say 'spice blends' because the word 'rub' is very limiting."

All of Buzz Bomb's blends are made with only the finest organic, non-irradiated spices.

During his upbringing, Scatturo's parents worked as caterers, which helped to fuel his passion for edibles.

"I've always been interested in food," he said.

It was while working as a cook in Rye that his first creation was born; a rub named "Rye Gourmet."

But it was Scatturo's other job as a soil scientist for the United States Department of Agriculture, which included a great deal of travel and his special dietary needs that really spawned the business.

"With my food allergies I couldn't go out to eat," explained Scatturo. "And I was traveling a lot, eating out of hotel rooms. With the spices it was a way to infuse flavor without much effort."

Some prodding by friends and family lead Scatturo to launch the business back in March of 2006. Since that time the business has seen measurable growth and it continues with three new spice blends in development. Scatturo is now the only certified organic spice vendor in the state of New Hampshire.

Scatturo said the process of creating a new blend involves a good deal of trial and error.

"I have a good feeling for what I should use. There's a lot of testing, retesting and making adjustments. I'm very picky. I want to please as many palates as I can."

Buzz Bomb World Spice Blends are sold in fine retail stores such as the Portsmouth Health Food Store, Seaport Fish and Tuttle's. Scatturo will also be holding samplings at Portsmouth Health Food Store on Nov. 16 and 18 and at Tuttle's on Nov. 17.

They can also be purchased by contacting Scatturo directly at (603) 380-2575 or by visiting Buzz Bomb's Web site at www.buzzbombspiceblends.com. Recipes utilizing the blends can also be found at that site.
