HAMPTON -- In his song entitled "Circle," folk legend Harry Chapin once sang, "All my life's a circle, but I can't tell you why, the seasons spinning round again, the years keep rolling by."

That revolving circle of life has come into full swing for one Hampton hair cutter, and the story is as heartwarming as the warmth of a barber's chair.

It was back in 1958 that Leroy Bolduc first took his scissors in hand and began snipping hair for a living out of a small building off High Street in Hampton, located behind what is now the Tobey and Merrill Insurance agency.

Leroy was a dedicated and skilled barber, and soon developed a loyal clientele. As the years passed, he was able to build up enough of a nest egg to go into business for himself, and opened his own shop, Depot Clipper, in Hampton's Depot Square (also known as Marelli Square).

For more than forty years, Leroy welcomed his clients, those who stepped in for the first time, to those how returned again and again after years of loyalty, to have their hair primed picture perfect.

Barber blood ran in the family, and when Leroy's daughter Sherri (now Sherri McGuire) decided to go into the business, she went to work in a salon in Massachusetts.

"We never worked together side by side," Sherri says. "I worked in Massachusetts so we weren't competing against each other."

Leroy snipped away until his last days, in 2000, when he was tragically diagnosed with cancer and succumbed to the disease.

Sherri left Massachusetts and came to Depot Clipper to help out and keep the business rolling. Soon she was cutting hair for many of Leroy's clients, who happily sat down in the barber's chair to let the daughter of their favorite cutter take over where dad left off.

Today, Depot Clipper has moved out of Depot Square, and the story of one of Hampton's favorite and longstanding stylists is now complete.

Sherri recently relocated the business right back into the very same High Street address that her father began working from 50 years ago. She has kept the Depot Clipper name, and following a month-long interior renovation and decorating spree, is opening the doors for those loyal clients once again, making it ready it for the men who want a trim, kids who need a cut, and women who are looking for the perfect style.

Depot Clippers has reopened for business at 22 High Street, and welcomes clients weekdays (excluding Wednesdays when they're closed) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

Stop in for a trim, a style or just to visit, at the little location with a lot of prim history, where Leroy first clipped, and where Sherri has completed the circle.

As Harry Chapin's song continued, "It seems like I've been here before, but I can't remember when, but I have this funny feeling, that we'll all be together again." Leroy's legacy lives on at Depot Clipper, and in heart and through his daughter, part of him is still there, together again.
