HAMPTON -- John and Katherine Tinios, owners of the Galley Hatch, have commissioned a video on the history of Hampton in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their restaurant and the 20th anniversary of the Hampton Cinemas.

A 2½-minute version of the film will be shown tonight to invited guests for the first time at the cinema, followed by a wine reception at the Galley Hatch.

A longer, 10-minute version of the video will be shown during the reception. The Tinios' plan to donate copies of the film to the town, the library, and to Hampton schools for use ion the classroom.

The shorter version will be shown regularly at the cinema before scheduled movies.

"We're doing this to celebrate our anniversary and the start of the new Millennium," said Jane Kiernan, Galley Hatch executive assistant. "It's a gift to the town to help young students become involved in local history."

Alicia Preston and Ned Quigley of WNDS news in Derry produced the film. Retired Hampton teacher Harold Fernald consulted on, and appears in the film.

The Galley Hatch opened in July, 1970 and that year Mike and Kay Tinios purchased the Mustard Pot Restaurant at the corner of Lafayette and Winnacunnet roads.

They renamed the restaurant Savory Street in 1972, and over the years have remodeled and expanded the business. Expansions happened in 1974 and in 1978, when a room was added to the front of the restaurant.

An upstairs function room was remodeled in 1980, and, most recently, artist Jon Mooers added panoramic murals to the walls in the lobby and in the lounge area.

Kiernan said anyone who registers on the Galley Hatch Web site (www.galleyhatch.com) receives a $10 gift certificate.

"It's unusual for a restaurant to hang around for 30 years, and we just wanted to do something to celebrate, and also give something back to the town for all its support these past three decades," Kiernan said.

Invited guests include Senate President Beverly Hollingworth and former Senator Bob Preston, Quigley and Jack Heath of WNDS, Hampton Town Manager James Barrington, Bill Teschek of the Lane Memorial Library, Barbara Donohoe, local historian John Holman, and Martha and Roland Lemire of the Hampton Cinemas.
