The SHELL STATION, an institution at the corner of Route 1 and Winnacunnet Road for more than 30 years, is closed and likely awaiting the development of retail space. A preliminary and not yet complete application has come before the Planning Board, according to the Hampton Planning office. The original application names the Shall Station and adjacent properties, Gray Funeral Home and Hampton Cityland Farms convenience store, for unspecified retail development. The name of the applicant is a holding company. Ralph Scamman owned the Shell station, offering among the few full service gas pumps in the area. Shell corporate headquarters wanted to see the business, he said last year. [Courtesy photo]
