HAMPTON -- Spectra Hair & Nails Salon has opened its doors at Brothers North Plaza, the town's newest and fastest-growing business complex on Route 1 in Hampton.

Owner Pam Correll decided to relocate her salon after being in Hampton Falls the past eight years. She also previously owned and operated another salon, Turnstyles, in Hampton and Seabrook. With that following of clients and new ones arriving daily, the salon is becoming a hub of activity for those wanting the best and most knowledgeable of hair stylists.

"It's very promising already," Correll said. "This plaza, with the retail stores and the restaurant, is going to give us the ability to grow the business."

Correll has been in the business for 27 years and excels in a profession that knows no boundaries. She is an American board certified hair colorist, one of only about 10 in New Hampshire to have successfully completed rigorous testing in Manhattan. As a result, her philosophy on hair care is what sets her salon apart from many others.

"It's about color and hair, and determining what is best for each customer," Correll said. "The way we do color is different than most salons. We clean and clarify the hair first, which makes it healthier and shinier."

Spectra Hair & Nails is a brand-new building, top to bottom, the fruit of Pam Correll's labor as well as that of her husband, Jim, a Hampton firefighter. Together they put up walls and shelving, did the painting and staining, hired out for the obvious such as flooring and electrical and plumbing, and made use of many items from the Hampton Falls salon.

"A lot of it was hands-on building," Correll said. "A lot of 'sweat equity' went into this," she added, laughing.

Spectra Hair & Nails has eight stylists and eight stations, two nail technician stations, and a pedicure spa with a whirlpool, all designed by Correll.

The salon is spacious and sparkling, and decorated in warm, earthy tones.

"It's a comfortable, friendly, and professional atmosphere where we're chatting with each other as well as with clients," Correll said. "Many who come here bump into friends so it really is a social time."

Correll says she has people who come regularly from Massachusetts locations, one who even comes all the way from Worcester.

Spectra Hair & Nails offers an upscale atmosphere without upscale prices. Prices are average — or lower — than other salons, Correll said.
