HAMPTON -- Sugary, sweet aromas welcomes customers who enter The Candy Corner. The family-run business is in its 14th season of satisfying beachgoers' sweet-tooth cravings with a wide selection of fudge, chocolate, and taffy.

Linda Statires credits her husband, Bill, with the idea to open a candy shop.

"We were just looking for something that appeals to all ages. And believe me candy does!"

The Statires chose Hampton Beach as the location for their shop because Bill's family has been in business on the beach for more than 40 years.

"They started with a little convenience store," she said.

Hampton is a great spot for the candy shop because it attracts a lot of people, especially families, according to Statires.

Customers can grab a bag and fill it with candy from the 190 bins that line the walls of the shop. Taffy is the biggest seller, especially among the older customers, Statires said.

"You gotta have taffy when you're at the beach," she said.

There are 28 flavors of taffy that Statire's father makes daily.

All ages love the shop's homemade fudge that is Statire mother's own recipe. There are currently 18 flavors of fudge that include unique flavors like cookie dough. Statires is always experimenting with new flavors upon the suggestion of customers or her own ideas. It is a fun job for Statires who is a self-proclaimed "chocoholic."

The fudge making is a family operation with her son and daughter making over 100 pounds of fudge daily right in the shop.

The Candy Corner is the only spot on the beach where beachgoers can find homemade candy apples and caramel corn, according to Statires.

The Candy Corner is open daily 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and is handicap accessible.
