HAMPTON - Restaurateur John Tinios’ vision is coming to life at the Galley Hatch, as construction of a three-season deck for a new Mediterranean nightclub is underway.

Workers broke ground on the project two weeks ago, Tinios said. Patrons can see the outline of what’s to come: the second-floor deck, a first-floor lobby and an elevator tower to connect the two.

Tinios expects to finish the deck in October and open for business by November. The deck will house “Club Tinos,” which Tinios called “a little more sophisticated” Mediterranean bar and lounge earlier this year.

Club Tinos will offer a relaxed alternative to lively dance clubs driven by loud music. The beach area has that “covered,” Tinios said earlier this year. The new club will be “more of an adult nightclub.” It will feature Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, cooked in an open kitchen so guests can watch at they drink European wine and spirits.

Tinios said he’s bringing “different entertainment” than what’s found on the Seacoast, mixing international music and jazz with more conventional music acts.

The deck will also have a fire pit and heating to keep guests comfortable in the fall weather.

This will be the first upstairs nightclub at the Galley Hatch since the Pelican Club closed in 2002. Since then, the upstairs has been rented for private functions.

“I’m very excited,” Tinios said. “It’s a great project. There’s not going to be anything like it in the Seacoast.”
