HAMPTON -- Hubbingtons Furniture is closing its Hampton store and holding its "Great $1.5 Million Sale" to consolidate its merchandise into the flagship Barrington location.

Dan Webb, a consultant hired to run the sales promotion, said Hubbingtons is "jam-packed" with furniture filling both stores and a warehouse, valuing upwards of $1.5 million, and the sale will go on until the stock is pared down enough to fit in the Barrington store.

Webb said Hubbingtons can't renew its Hampton lease, since the building's owner, Brayton Energy, is expanding beyond its current borders into the location where Hubbingtons has been for the past two years at 75 Lafayette Road.

All the merchandise, including that of the store at 1048 Calef Highway in Barrington, has been retagged for the sale, according to Webb.

"We have enjoyed a tremendous relationship with the people of Hampton, Barrington and surrounding communities for 30 years," said Peter Rhoades, Hubbingtons owner. "In order to continue this tradition and insure our longevity, after we close our Hampton store, we will be consolidating our entire operation into our Barrington store, where we will be servicing the needs of all our customers for many years to come."

Hubbingtons website indicates that will be opening another location on the Seacoast in the fall.

Webb said each store had more than 40 customers waiting outside the doors before the first day of the sale on Feb. 13 and hundreds have been filing every day.

"Consumer response has been unbelievable," Webb said.

The Hampton lease runs out at the end of March, but Webb said he expects the company to achieve its goal before then.
