HAMPTON —- Beach Precinct Commissioners Mike O'Neil, Skip Windemiller and newly-elected commissioner Gary Kubik appeared before selectmen Monday night in what was described by those in attendance as an "historic event."

With the recent transfer of fire protection service from the Hampton Beach Precinct to the Town of Hampton, O'Neil in turn took the opportunity to turn over the keys to the Precinct Fire station as well as the title to a fire truck, Engine 4, to Hampton Fire Chief Hank Lipe. O'Neil thanked Lipe for his assistance during the transition of the last several months. Special thanks were also extended by O'Neil to Planning Board Chairman Tom Gillick, as well as to the Town of Hampton.

"We're very grateful," O'Neil said, adding that the precinct commission looked forward to working closely with selectmen and the Town Manager in the future. O'Neil remarked on people working together "for the betterment of the community."

"This is another proud moment for this town," Selectman Brian Warburton announced, referring to the history of the Beach Precinct fire service dating back to 1907. Warburton described the event as "another example of teamwork." Selectmen Chairman Jim Workman echoed Warburton's comments.

O'Neil said the presentation of the title to the fire truck to Lipe was the result of a unanimous vote of precinct voters on Friday.

In other business, Town Manager James Barrington announced that the Highland Avenue project and the Route 1 reconstruction project are both on schedule. No decision had been made on the street sweeper, as only one bid had been received, Barrington said. A contract was signed for the town's new ambulance, with an expected delivery date of October, and the marine rescue boat has been ordered with an anticipated delivery date of September, Barrington said. Bids for spring clean-up were scheduled to be opened this week on Wednesday.

Barrington said he has been receiving calls from residents complaining about parking problems at Kids Kingdom due to high school students parking in that lot. Barrington said he has been in touch with the school notifying them that enforcement will be beginning and the gates will be locked.

Barrington said he had also received a call recently from resident Nathan Page representing the James House, expressing concerns about the possibility of damage to property from all terrain vehicles using the Campbell property. Barrington said that since the land has not been posted, ATV use is not a violation of the law, and nothing illegal has taken place. Barrington said he wanted to make the selectmen aware of the situation if board members wanted to consider establishing a policy at a later date.

The Rotary Auction, the Hampton Rotary's largest single fundraiser, will be aired on Channel 22 starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 7. Bidders may preview the items at www.hamptonrotary.org until 3 p.m. on Friday, Barrington announced. Proceeds of the event will benefit local charities.
