Return to Table of Contents On Friday morning last, between two and three o'clock, the Winnicumet House, at Boar's Head, owned and occupied by Thomas Leavitt, Esq., was discovered to be on fire, and within a brief period, the entire building was burnt to the ground. About one half of the furniture was saved, but in a damaged state. The fire was discovered in a small projection built upon the rear of the main house, and is supposed to have been the work of an incendiary. The total loss is estimated at $5,000, on which was an insurance on the furniture for $400, and on the buildings for $2,500 in the old Rockingham Mutual Co., in this town [Exeter].
