HAMPTON -- The area is cleared and the work has begun!

The Hampton Historical Society is getting ready to reconstruct the c.1796 barn that was acquired last year. The barn, to be used as educational, display and community space, will be rebuilt on the grounds of the Tuck Museum, located at 40 Park Avenue in Hampton.

An existing tree being removed to make space on the site has been a problem for the other museum buildings that are close by. Losing the tree will actually help preserve the buildings. Dave DeGagne, the HHS's buildings and grounds chairman, will be using lumber from the tree to make some benches for the Meeting House Green area.

The foundation for the barn will be done soon; however, the rest of the reconstruction project is still on hold while monies needed are still being raised. So far, the HHS has raised about $21,000 of the $60,000 needed to rebuild the barn.

Whose in the community who like to contribute to this very worthwhile cause may send a donation to Hampton Historical Society, PO Box 1601 Hampton, NH 03843. All donations are gratefully accepted, and donors of $100 and more will be named on a permanent plaque in the barn.
