HAMPTON — Commander Ralph Fatello of American Legion Post #35 in the Hamptons has announced that there will be a dedication and unveiling of six new names on the Global War On Terrorism (GWOT) Memorial Monument.
The dedication will take place in a special ceremony that will be conducted on Tuesday, September 11 at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Post #35 hall, located at 69 High Street in Hampton. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
This unique monument has the names of all the Veterans from the state of New Hampshire who have lost their lives in the GWOT since September 11, 2001, engraved in the chronological order of their passing.
Guest speakers this year will include a local combat Veteran, Sgt. Nick Cyr, USMC. Currently a New Hampshire State Trooper, Nick served two tours of duty with the Marines, one in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.
Other keynote speakers include NH Governor John Lynch and American Legion State Commander Chuck Lewis. Families of the latest GWOT NH casualties will be in attendance, as well as other notable public dignitaries from the state.
Color Guards taking part in the ceremony are from Post #35, the Hampton Fire Department and the Seacoast’s own Winnacunnet High School USMC Jr. ROTC Color Guard and Hampton Boy Scout Troop 177. Also participating will be the Seacoast Marine Corps League’s Rifle Squad. The National Anthem will be performed by local singer Elaine Weatherby, with the Invocation offered by Chaplain John M. Holman.
