HAMPTON -- Area veterans, their spouses and guests enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings at a Veterans' Appreciation Dinner, held last Friday at the American Legion Hall on High Street in Hampton.

Almost 90 people were in attendance at the event, which was organized by Navy veteran Joe Kutt, owner of Joe's Meat Shoppe in North Hampton. Kutt, whose business provided food and supplies for the dinner, was assisted by numerous fellow veterans and others, such as John and Connie Holman who helped with the preparations.

The dinner was preceded by a "fun hour" from 6-7 p.m., where guests enjoyed snacks and an assortment of drinks served up by Roger Syphers. Those who were present were also given an opportunity to take a chance on a 50-50 raffle.

Guests chatted with one another, either seated at autumn-themed decorated tables or circulating around the dining area. Hearty handshakes, enthusiastic greetings, and cheerful smiles were the order of the evening.

In the kitchen, Ev Cote, Nancy Kutt, and Carl Richardson were busy with the behind-the-scenes preparations. There were pumpkin and apple pies to be sliced, mashed potatoes to stir up, and bags of rolls to be broken into. Joe Kutt stayed busy and could be found in any number of places between the kitchen and th dining area, making sure that everything was running smoothly.

Part of the evening's activities include an invocation offered by veteran John MacInnis; the flag pledge was led by Ken Malcolm, also a veteran.

The Veterans' Appreciation Dinner is an annual event which coincides, appropriately enough, with the upcoming observance of Veterans Day. Those who were in attendance at this year's dinner appeared to enjoy each other's company while sharing a delicious meal prepared especially for them, to show appreciation for their commitment, dedication, and service to this country.
