HAMPTON — American Legion Post 35 in the Hamptons was recently presented with an evergreen Christmas wreath by Winnacunnet High School Vice Principal, William McGowan.
McGowan had accepted the wreath from Mr. Morrill Worcester of the Worcester Wreath Company in Harrington, Maine. The outdoor ceremony was conducted on the grounds of the high school.
Each year, as part of the Wreaths Across America project, the Worcester Wreath Company organizes a convoy of several trucks loaded with wreaths as they head to Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. Once they arrive in the nation’s capital, the wreaths are placed on the graves of America’s fallen military heroes.
This year the convoy stopped at WHS and, with the help of Master Gunnery Sgt Fran Henderson and the students of the USMC JROTC program, they welcomed Mr. Worcester as he presented wreath to the school.
The wreath was then handed over to Post 35 officers, including Commander Ralph G. Fatello; Jim Cushman, the Junior Vice Commander; and George Masten, Sergeant at Arms.
Following the presentation, the members of Post 35 placed the wreath at the Global War on Terror monument, situated in front of American Legion Hall at 69 High Street in Hampton.
A supplier to LL Bean, Worcester Wreath has donated more than 5000 wreaths each year since 1992 to adorn the headstones of fallen Veterans. Wreaths Across America is a campaign designed to honor deceased Veterans in each and every state and national cemetery across the country.
