This was an a comedy season. Pat Angeli, the sister of screen actress Pier Angeli, made her first appearance at Hampton this year. Rockingham County Attorney and friend of the company, Carlton Eldredge, joined the cast for one of the shows.
Sally-Jane Heit remembers… “I don’t recall my first season, but I do recall the fun, the people, oh yes, Denny Drew and Charlie Davisson… first sight, first love… and Alfred and John looking at me as I arrived with my entourage of three children, the babysitter… what had they hired… an actress or a mother. My three children had three seasons at Hampton Playhouse and they. too, remember the smell of the grease paint and the roar of the audience at all those sexy British farces we did one season. Carlton Eldridge, a local politician played a small role in one of them. The ‘family’ at Hampton Playhouse was tight… it had to be to pull off as many productions in as few days. Charlie was ever there with a line and a missed move… what a pro.”
Kevin Golden remembers… I spent two summers designing and painting at the Hampton Playhouse, first in 1976 and then again in 1979. Both summers I stayed at Maddie Meredith’s home. Maddie seemed to have a never ending supply of her famous cookies, and graciously extended her home, making it ours for the summer.
